Private Music Instruction

Lessons at your home, or via Zoom/Skype/Teams and other virtual platforms
Piano, Composition, Theory, Classical, Jazz, Pop, Rock

I am pleased to be offering both in-person lessons at your home and virtual lessons from my home studio via a number of platforms. While I wish I could meet with all of my students in person, online lessons provide an excellent alternative musical learning experience with flexible hours and in-home convenience. I love to teach and am happy to connect with my students in any way that works for them.

For those families and students interested in in-person lessons, I will work with you to craft a Covid-19 safety plan that allows us all to feel safe during lessons so that learning and teaching are fun and low-stress. Typically, this means following the current guidelines for the student’s regular school regarding masking and social distancing, and limiting visitors during lessons. I am fully vaccinated.

A dedicated and skilled instructor, I am an expert at crafting a lesson plan to match the student. I will teach in all styles and all levels, and excel at re-igniting interest in the student who has begun to drift away from music or is finding lessons “a drag”. That’s not to say that my lessons are not challenging. For my piano students, I try, as soon as possible, to move away from the graduated level books that are so common and present literature that will keep the student engaged and making progress. I want you to keep playing and enjoying making music because I love teaching and seeing you progress!

Outside of my teaching practice, I am also a Composer, Conductor, Performer, Improviser, and Sound Designer. I lead my own ensemble, TROOT, for which I compose. I have designed and mixed sound and acted as a Musical Director for theater, television, and the music industry since 1985 with clients ranging from the smallest of local theatres to ABC, MSNBC, and the San Francisco Pops. I hold a Master’s Degree in Music Composition and Electronic Media from Mills College, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Composition from the University of California, San Diego.
